Civil rights restored to North Carolina man

ANGIER, N.C. – One small town lawyer from Angier, N.C., has won a big victory for second amendment advocates.

For nearly five years, Dan Hardway has been working a case that would restore gun rights to a convicted felon.

"They were trying to punish Barney [Britt] again for a crime that he committed in 1979 that he has fully paid for," says Hardway.

Hardway's battle began when the General Assembly passed a law in 2004 that banned all convicted felons from carrying a weapon. His client had been convicted of a drug-related felony in the 70s. He did his time, and had all of his rights restored – for 17 years.
