London, and Cape Cod. Stabbers attracted to gun-free zones

In these two stories, the facts are remarkably similar. Both take place in so-called gun-free zones, which seem to attract crazy people with knives.

First, in Cape Cod Mass.

Plymouth County Deputy James Creed said in a statement posted on the department’s Facebook page that the May 10 events in which two people were killed and five injured were “in every way a senseless tragedy.”

Creed acknowledged the bravery of George Heath, the teacher fatally stabbed defending a waitress at the Bertucci’s restaurant at Taunton’s Silver City Galleria mall. Creed also credited his wife, Laura, a nurse who helped the victims.

And in London,

Ethem Aydin Orhon, 66, was released on bail on Friday but then just hours later went on a stabbing rampage, knifing four women in the supermarket car park in Hampton, west London

The suspect was charged with assaulting a police officer in a separate incident on Thursday May 19.

Shoppers took to social media to describe utter carnage at the scene where a man is alleged to have waved a knife in the car park as customers ran for their lives.

What did they do about it? Being forcibly disarmed by the government in London, this is what they did:

A member of staff at Tangley Park Children's Centre, which backs onto the scene of the attack, said: "We kept all the children safe and kept them in the building until we knew it was safe.

In Massachusetts, the citizens are disarmed, almost as severely as England, but not completely:

Creed shot Arthur DaRosa, who went on the rampage the day after he went to the hospital feeling depressed and suicidal.

This sounds like a "good guy with a gun" because that's exactly what it is. Sadly, the brutal knifing attack was stopped only after the rampage had taken place and people were killed and injured. One can only wonder how far it would have gone, if the people were armed and able to defend themselves.
