Threats to shoot certain voters, called a "joke" by ACLU, others

This is the final solution. If you are voting for him I will have to shoot you before election day.'"

This is the statement that is attributed to Loring Wirbel, recently resigned co-chair of the Colorado Springs chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado.

Wirbel told The Gazette (link: http://gazette.com/aclu-board-member-resigns-after-facebook-post-about-s... ) Thursday night that the post wasn't meant to be taken seriously. "It was intended totally as a joke," Wirbel said.

The ACLU of Colorado also released a statement saying it did not condone Wirbel's post. "Our members, supporters, and volunteers are free to express their own personal views and opinions in their personal lives. We have fought for decades to preserve that right, as well, for all Coloradans, no matter how strongly we disagree with the content," the statement read.

His post came days before a Fountain woman was arrested for threatening Republicans in a call to Planned Parenthood, saying, "It is tempting to walk into a Republican Party meeting with her dead husband’s gun and just start shooting people," according to police.

Left-of-center groups like ProgressNow-Colorado launched a campaign last week against “incendiary rhetoric” by Republicans in the aftermath of a mass shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs.

This is insanity. Threatening someone's life, with a gun, because of their vote? And then AFTER THE OUTCRY saying it was a "joke"?
